On June 30 both houses of Congress approved legislation that extends the closing deadline for qualified first-time and repeat home buyer tax credit purchases from June 30, 2010, to September 30, 2010. HERE ARE THE TOP 10 INSPECTION AREAS THAT ARE BEING MISSED OR FAILING THAT THE KENT COUNTY INSPECTIONS DEPARTMENT WANTS YOU TO BE AWARE OF!  PLEASE PASS THE WORD ALONG AND BE SURE TO CONSIDER THESE BEFORE SCHEDULING YOUR INSPECTIONS.

1. Altering joist hangers.
2. Stud shoes missing.
3. Fireblocking and draftstopping not done.
4. Tempered glass not being installed when the window is less 60" from the bottom of the stairs.
5. Final grade not 6" fall in the first 10'.
6. Roof cap and roof boots not installed for close-in inspection.
7. No plumbing inspection.
8. No rebar in footings if the plans call for it.
9. Top plates not overlapped.
10. Not building to the approved plans.
